Maracajau, Brazil
Maracajau - Rio Grande do Norte
The little fishing village of Maracajau is located about 50-60 km north of Natal (about 1 hrs drive) in the region of Rio Grande Do Norte N.E. Brazil. Maracajau offers Brazils most expansive area of rocks and coral reefs (some 13km2) in the seas off Maracajau, and offers warm waters, (28c) which makes Maracajau ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving and a great chance to see first hand the tropical fish which are in abundance in the Maracajau waters or 'parrachos' as they are known. (When the tide lowers, the water gets trapped by the formation of reefs, 7 km off the coast. This trapped water forms large natural pools, called 'parrachos'). To continue the water experience in Maracajau a 'must visit' to the water park and restaurants at 'Ma-Noa' www.ma-noa.com will be worth while and the local village bars and restaurants are friendly and eating out is very, very cheap compared to Europe.
Maracajau has also started to attract overseas property investors and a few new Brazilian off-plan property developments are starting to be built in and around Maracajau like the beach resort of Porto Dos Corais which offers European property, style and quality at N.E. Brazilian prices, also there are several golf courses planned and approved for the area. But more importantly to the local community, providing jobs and security for the local Maracajau population is of great importance to the area's future.
